MTH Service on board from the start
The custom operation is owned by Martin Thomsen. All told, around 15 employees are involved in the work from field to storage when the straw has to be baled, gathered and hauled home. MTH Service started using the new feature during the 2026 harvest and so helped test and finish it. A decision Martin has not regretted in any way.
It's an obvious system if you run a custom operation and have a lot to do with straw and inventory management. It works really well.
The situation before FarmBackup
Before, MTH Service kept it all in notes. With up to 15 people on the go and fields spread across a large area, it was hard to keep an overview of what had been baled, where the bales were sitting, and what had to be billed to whom. The notes had to be collected from many hands, and the numbers had to be keyed in again when the customers were to get their invoices. It was enormously heavy manual work, and there was a risk of mistakes being made.
FarmBackup's new map-based straw inventory management has made it far easier to keep the overview, both for the employees and for the office. It helps minimize mistakes and misunderstandings in a busy period.
How MTH Service uses the straw inventory management
The jobs go onto the map. As the jobs come in, Martin creates them on the individual fields and sets the status to "ready for baling". The drivers can see right away in the app where the field is and which customer it belongs to. With one tap they get directions straight out to the piece.
The bales are recorded on the spot. Once the piece has been done, the driver taps the field in the app and records the number of bales and the average weight. Photos and notes can be added as well. The information syncs with the office and is automatically totaled up on the individual customer.
The status shows what needs to happen. Once the baler has been through, he or she switches the field from "ready for baling" to "ready for hauling". Then the straw drivers can see where there are bales to be gathered and hauled to storage, and they update the field in the app themselves. Everyone knows what is sitting where, and nothing gets forgotten.
The overview in the office. On the computer back in the office, Martin can zoom out and see the whole area at once: which types of straw are standing in the fields and the storage sites, and where something is missing. The app has the same functions, so the drivers see the same picture out in the field.
Kg overview and billing in a few clicks. When the customers are to be billed, Martin's wife, Mette, filters in the system and pulls out the numbers. She can see, for example, how many kg of straw have been baled in total for a particular customer. Then they can produce the invoice for the customer in a few clicks and with minimal time spent.
