Third generation in the forest
Brdr. Højrup was established in 1985 and is run today by Keld Højrup. He is the third generation in a family that has worked professionally in the forest since the early 1950s. Besides management and customer visits, he still spends many hours in his harvester-forwarder.
The company is a full-service forestry operation. The work ranges from harvesting, thinning and forwarding of brash and stem wood to chipping with four chippers, branch grinding, stump grinding, machine planting and hedge trimming. The customers range from the smaller private forest owner to estates and the Danish Nature Agency. Brdr. Højrup also buys timber on the stump and has direct agreements with 10-12 heating plants on wood chip deliveries.
The working area is Jylland south of the Limfjord and Fyn, and the crew numbers about 22 employees.
Back when we used paper pads, we didn't know what the crew had done until two weeks later. Now we know right away, and I don't have to key it in manually.
The situation before FarmBackup
Before FarmBackup, the employees filled out their job sheets on paper pads out in the forest. Every two weeks they had to remember to drop the pads in the mailbox at the office. After that, everything had to be keyed in manually before the office had the visibility it needed for payroll and invoicing. It took a long time, and by the time the sheets were finally keyed in, the work was so far back that any mistakes were hard to correct.
The situation today with FarmBackup
Brdr. Højrup started using FarmBackup in 2022. Today they use FarmBackup Task for job sheets, payroll and inventory management of wood chips and energy wood. They use FarmBackup's GPS tracker system for internal visibility and coordination, and for documentation of the work done.
The FarmBackup Task app instead of paper pads
The employees record their job sheets in the FarmBackup Task app while they are out in the forest. The sheets are at the office right away, so nobody has to wait for the mailbox to fill up. In the job sheet overview, the office can follow what is being done for each customer, and the sheets are used directly for invoicing and settlement.
Payroll visibility without adding up hours
The hours from the job sheets are collected automatically in the payroll overview, so the office has them ready when payroll has to be closed out. The office no longer has to add up hours from paper sheets, and the employees can see their own entries in the app.
Map-based inventory management of wood chips and energy wood
Wood chips are a big part of Brdr. Højrup's business, and a long time can pass from the tree being felled to the chips reaching the heating plant. The branches and tops have to sit and dry in piles or windrows before they are chipped, and during that time the inventory is spread across forests and landings over a large area.

With the map-based inventory management in FarmBackup Task, the inventory of wood chips and energy wood sits on one map that both the office and the crew in the forest can see on the computer and in the app. There they can see what is sitting where, how much there is, and which forest owner it belongs to. That makes it easier to plan when the chippers should go where, and to make sure the settlement with the forest owners adds up once the heating plants have reported the volumes.
The map-based inventory management has just received 3 stars from Agromek and the title European Novelty 2026.
The GPS tracker system
Brdr. Højrup's machines have GPS trackers from FarmBackup. On the live map and the historical route map, in both the app and on the web, the office and the crew in the forest can see where the harvester-forwarders, the chippers and the other machines are, and where they have been. That makes internal coordination markedly easier day to day.

The trackers automatically record where each machine has been, and when. That gives Brdr. Højrup documentation of the work done, which they can show the forest owner if questions come up about a job. It fits a company that is PEFC and SBP certified and puts weight on traceability.
