About FarmBackup
We make software and GPS hardware for people who work in fields, forests and green spaces. FarmBackup keeps track of the jobs, the hours and the machines, so you can spend the day on the work and not on the paperwork afterwards.
We built it for the people who plan the day, send the invoices and make sure the crew gets paid right. And for the operators who use the app every day, including the places where the phone has no signal.
Brothers Søren and Anders Knudsen started FarmBackup in 2015. We're based in Copenhagen and have customers in seven countries.
What we do
FarmBackup Task: jobs, hours and payroll
You hand out the jobs to the right people. Operators log hours, products and notes in the app on iOS or Android, and back in the office it turns into invoices and payroll, without anyone typing the same thing twice. The day gets written down as it happens, not pieced together from memory a week later.
GPS tracking: machines and implements
A GPS tracker on every tractor, truck and self-propelled machine. A Bluetooth beacon on every implement, from trailers and cultivators to mowers and drills. Together they show you on a live map where each machine has been, when, and what it had hitched up. When a customer, an insurer or an authority asks, you've got the answer ready.
Field profitability
GPS data shares out hours and travel time across your fields on its own, including the trip there and back that usually vanishes from the sums. So you can see which fields make money, and which only look like they do.
Invoicing and payroll
Logged work becomes an invoice, and logged hours become payroll. Overtime, absence and normal hours are worked out from each person's own contract. With integrations to Xero, QuickBooks and e-conomic, the numbers go straight into your accounts. Fewer hours slip off the invoice, and payroll is done in minutes.
Health and safety checks
The pre-start check belongs to the machine and is done in the app before anyone heads out. So it's on record that it was done, by whom and when.
What makes us different
Machines and people in one system
Most systems look after one thing: the machines or the crew. We've put both together, so the hours, the machine hours and the job land on the same record. That's why you can do the invoice and the payroll from the same thing.
We can see what was behind the tractor
A GPS tracker can tell you the tractor crossed the field. The beacon tells you what it had hitched up. So mowing, spraying and cultivation stay apart and get billed right. The beacon battery lasts more than five years, and it's screwed or strapped on. Do it once, and that machine is sorted.
Built for places without signal
The app works offline and syncs as soon as there's a connection again. If the tracker loses signal, it stores around 30 days of data itself. Work in the valley, in the forest or on the farthest block still gets recorded. We built it that way on purpose.
Payroll rules, not just a list of hours
We work out pay from each person's contract: normal hours by weekday or by schedule, overtime bands, paid breaks and public holidays by country and year. Plenty of apps hand you a list of hours and leave the rest to you. With us, you get a pay figure.
Prices in your own currency, and no lock-in on Task
We show prices for every market in local currency instead of hiding them behind a quote form. Task runs month to month, and on GPS you get 20% off if you pay for a year at a time.
Who uses FarmBackup
- Agricultural contractors who bill by the hour, the hectare or the job and want every single hour on the invoice
- Crop farms that want to know the cost of each field, not just the whole farm
- Livestock farms where the routine has to be spot on, whoever is on duty
- Specialty crops like fruit, wine and vegetables, where hours per hectare and traceability decide the margin
- Forestry contractors who want the day split honestly into productive time, preparation and travel
- Vegetation management including operations and maintenance of solar farms, where the customer pays for work that can be documented
It's usually the owner, the operations manager or the office who sets FarmBackup up. They're the ones planning the day, sending the invoices and running payroll. The operators just use the app.
The people behind FarmBackup
Søren and Anders Knudsen grew up on a family farm in Denmark. When they came home after university, they saw what their father and the neighbors were up against: expensive machines standing idle, and the real cost of the work hidden in notebooks, phone calls and memory.
The first version of FarmBackup came out in 2015 to connect farmers with contractors. The brothers learned a lot from it. The hard part wasn't finding the work, it was getting it documented. That became FarmBackup Task in 2019, and then GPS tracking.
Søren is CEO. Anders is CCO and runs sales.

How to get started
It starts with a chat, not a form. Our own people handle sales and onboarding, so you talk to someone who knows both the system and the work it keeps track of.
Task
We get the app, your company, your crew and your price list set up, and you can try it out before you commit. Training is short on purpose. One of our contractor customers says a five-minute video was enough for the crew.
GPS
The tracker connects to the vehicle's battery with U-shaped connectors. No technician, no special skills. Beacons are screwed or strapped to the implements.

Questions we often get
-
What is FarmBackup?
GPS and job tracking for farms, agricultural contractors, forestry and vegetation management. GPS trackers, Bluetooth beacons and the FarmBackup Task app work together, so jobs, hours and machine use get recorded while the work happens.
-
Who uses FarmBackup?
Owners, managers and office staff use it to plan the work, keep an eye on jobs and machines, send invoices and run payroll. Operators use the app out in the field to get their jobs and log what they did.
-
Who's behind FarmBackup?
Brothers Søren Knudsen (CEO) and Anders Knudsen (CCO). They started FarmBackup in 2015 and grew up on a family farm in Denmark.
-
Where are you based?
Our head office is in Copenhagen, Denmark, and we have customers in Denmark, the US, New Zealand, Australia and other countries.
-
Does it work without mobile signal?
Yes. The app works offline and syncs when there's a connection again. The GPS tracker stores around 30 days of data if it loses its connection.
-
Which machines can you track?
Any tractor, truck or self-propelled machine with a battery can take a GPS tracker, whatever the make. Implements like trailers, mowers, cultivators and drills get a Bluetooth beacon that talks to the tracker.
-
Can FarmBackup work out payroll?
Yes. Hours, overtime and absence are worked out from each person's contract, including public holidays by country, and the result goes straight on to payroll.
-
What does it cost?
Prices are shown for each market in local currency. Task is a fixed monthly amount plus active users, and GPS is a fixed monthly amount plus trackers and beacons. You'll find your country's prices on the pricing page.
-
Can I try it for free?
Yes, you can try FarmBackup before you commit.
-
How quickly can I get going?
Trackers go on the machine's battery without a technician, and the crew needs no more than a short introduction to the app.
